Roll of Honour

There are five names from the 1914/18 war on the Newnham memorial plaque; Frank Charles REED, Percival John TIBBELS, Arthur WILLIAMS, William ENGLAND and Walter Henry WEBSTER.

William ENGLAND was shaving at the door of his dug-out when he was fatally wounded by a shell a few days before Arthur WILLIAMS was killed. Lieutenant Walter Henry WEBSTER lost his life within a few days of being awarded the D.S.O. for picking up a German mortar shell which had landed among his men and throwing it to safety. He was last seen running towards some Germans who had got into his trench - firing his revolver as he went.
